It is unbelievable for anybody else but for Indians. Anywhere you go in India you can see the unbelievable amount of patience and tolerance exercised by the Public.
On the other day I went to the Egmore railway station to drop my daughter. I have not visited the place for the last 5 years or so. While there were people everywhere a normal feature in any Indian locality, there was chaos inside and outside the station. To buy a platform ticket I had to walk through the long front corridor of the station. It was filled with people; children and adults squatting on the floor in a very unclean surrounding. What happened to the administration of the place one wonders? The stone walls erected during the British rule were smudged and covered with dirt and grime. Papers and waste were strewn all over the place. The issue counter for the platform ticket is almost at the end of the building and takes quite a bit of walking.
More surprises awaited me as I entered the platform. Plastic bags and waste material were dumped on the rails on most of the lines. No one seem to care or concerned about cleaning the place; neither the railway authorities nor the public. If Railways cannot do it why can't a voluntary organization help? There are very few dustbins visible on the platforms and the best place to dump waste seems to be the underground rails. I also noticed sewer water getting collected as cess pools on the rails in some of the lines.
It is unbelievable!!! I don't have better words to describe the Indian apathy!
